We are thrilled to have expert Wendy Gordon from the Center for Birth and Center for Birth Midwives joining us at our Mini Stage for a Workshop called, "What It’s Like to Give Birth at a Freestanding Birth Center"!
Having a baby in the Pacific Northwest means getting to choose from lots of excellent care providers. If you have a low-risk pregnancy, as most people do, you also have options for place of birth, including hospital, home, or freestanding birth center. This workshop will explore the birth center option, discussing research on safety, interventions available, and outcomes of this model of care. Walk through the process of prenatal care, labor, birth, and postpartum care at a freestanding birth center and make the choice that’s right for you.
Wendy has had a twisting career path that included refinery engineering in Minneapolis, corporate recruiting in Kansas, and human resources work in Portland. She discovered her calling to midwifery in 2001 and graduated from Seattle Midwifery School in 2005. While helping to build a busy home birth midwifery practice in Portland for several years, Wendy also began teaching at Seattle Midwifery School. After receiving her Masters degree in Public Health in 2012, she relocated to Seattle to take on a more intensive teaching load in Bastyr’s Department of Midwifery. She continues to provide maternity care and catch babies with Center for Birth Midwives!
